उपवीत — {úpa-vīta} mfn. invested with the sacred thread##({am}), n. the being invested with the sacred thread##the sacred thread or cord (worn by the first three classes over the left shoulder and under the right arm) TS. ŚBr. Mn. ii, 44 ; 64 ; iv, 66 Yājñ. i, 29 Hariv. Ragh. &c. (cf. {yajñôpaviita}.)
